Celebration of the International Women’s Day at UD’s

Dschang,UDs/SIC-4/03/22.The 37th edition of the International Women’s day which came under the theme ‘ Gender Equality today for a Sustainable tomorrow’ was celebrated in grand style at UDs. It was marked by week long activities which included a fitness walk, environmental cleanup campaign, educative and health talks on cyber criminality and hepatitis B and other STDs of which the women of the University of Dschang came out in great numbers. The launching of the week’s activity on Thursday 3^rd of March brought new glamour to the Women’s event. Presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Roger Tsafack Nanfosso, he pledged his incessant support for women. The vice chancellor gave tangible proof of employment and promotion opportunities which put women at the forefront. He declared ‘ We will continue to do everything to ensure that our women who are by our side will stand in front of us ». The joy of the UDS women as expressed by the coordinator of the Women’s activities Mrs Ngonkam Sylvie was indeed untold. When given the floor Prof Sylvie who is also the Technical Adviser to the Vice chancellor whole heartedly thanked the father of the collective Dynamism Prof. Nanfosso for always giving out time and resources to ensure women’s wellbeing. While encouraging women to be examples at their places of work Prof Sylvie on behalf of the women pledged full for the Vice Chancellor’s vision at making UDS remain a citadel of excellence.

        The women Day fabric for the year 2022 was then officially handed over by the VC to the women while they presented the design chosen for the 8^th March day. A round table conference continued and at the end of the day women were elated to tap from the broad knowledge of the panelist.

Having put in much for the week the women of the University of Dschang got into a celebration mood on March 7^th as part of activities marking their talent day. The occasion comprised by the exhibition of traditional dishes and cultural evening was great as meals of the ten region was prepared and served around the flag mast of the University. This saw the massive participation of men of UDS who came to support the women in their activities. The presence of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Roger Tsafack Nanfosso and other authorities of the town like the first lady of Menoua Division among others, brought special joy in the hearts of those present. As the staff of UDS and guests consumed the sumptuous meal the curtain for the cultural evening unfolded. Raw talents in musical presentation and sketches and fashion parade by the women were exhibited. The climax of the cultural evening was then marked by the competition by six faculties for the Vice Chancellor’s prize. With musical playback, the women dressed in traditional regalia danced to the tune of the traditional song chosen. At the end of day the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences got the price as it emerged first in the competition. It was indeed a great occasion that revealed that the University of Dschang is not only good at producing excellent result through their students but equally through other members making up the UDS family.
