Over 40 new assistant lecturers receive renewed pedagogic values
Dschang, UDs/SIC-22/05/25. The Joseph Fondjo Auditorium played host to the 2025 university pedagogic seminar under the auspices of the Rector of the University, Prof. Roger Tsafack Nanfosso. This enriching event gathered over 40 recently recruited assistant lecturers of the University of Dschang in a bid to upgrade their teaching spectrum through a host of very rich presentations from experts on key domains. Coordinated by the Secretary General of the University of Dschang, Prof. MOUPOU Moïse, who outlined the general framework of the seminar, stated that the lecturers needed to ensure ethical and pedagogic values; the lecturer must be the light of the world, he added. The Vice Rector in Charge of Internal Control and Evaluation, Prof WANSI Sylvie Lea in her presentation underscored university ethics and deontology in Cameroon: principles and practice highlighting the stakes linked to ethics and deontology. Prof Tchabou Hervé (DAAPA) in his presentation talked about the Rights and obligations of Higher education teachers underscoring the need to adhere to laid down regulations. The lecturers were then thrilled to a presentation from Prof Fotsing Robert who dissected computational thinking as a new paradigm in university pedagogy. The opening speech of the seminar by Prof Wansi Slyvie Lea emphasized the need for all lecturers present to take advantage of the seminar and enrich their pedagogic knowledge to brew better teaching and evaluation techniques into higher education.
This segment marked the end of the first phase of the pedagogic seminar. The second phase was centered around course preparation teaching tools and evaluation with Prof Kneck A BDIDIAS presenting on Choice and structuring of content; scripting a course, here participants were drilled on the smooth preparation of courses. Prof. Clautilde MOFOR (Dean/FS) on her part edified participants on how to plan and conduct learning, while Dr Ernestine Wringo TANI spoke on why, when, and how to administer an evaluation. The assistant lecturers were also schooled on how to optimise teaching as well as the contribution of quality assurance in the construction of skills in an entrepreneurial university by Prof. MOUPOU Moïse and Prof. Djofack Sidonie (DAAF/UDs), respectively.
The 3rd session of the seminar revolved around artificial intelligence, its definition, history, and examples of use in Higher Education, as well as some legal aspects of the uses of artificial intelligence systems in the university presented by Prof Clautilde MOFOR and Prof Hervé TCHABO. The last presenter, Prof. KENMOGNE spoke on entrepreneurship and creativity in the era of AI.
The event ended with the award of attestations, as the new lecturers now have a sound platform to improve higher education learning as teachers, improve quality of teaching, encourage cooperative learning environment and improve teacher-student communication among others.
