Paralympic team UDs rebounds in pump
Maroua UDs/SIC-11/05/18.The paralympic squad of UDs is coming back in full force in the 21st edition of the university games in Maroua after 2years in the dark. The team has not been able to make it to the podium for the last two editions of the university games as was the case in the 18th edition in the university of Yaoundé I where the UDS Paralympics squad defiled all prognostic factors to be at the top ranking podium with an outstanding performance of 7 gold medals out of the 14 at stake. The Paralympics squad of UDs left DSCHANG with only 9 athletes out of the 12 required due to the refusal of some athletes to be part of the expedition as some gave reasons of poor health conditions while some simply spoke of not having permission from their parents due the harsh climatic conditions of the Far north region as well as reasons patterning to security.
Team coach Ngatsebai Zedek had to redouble efforts to keep the moral of the squad high; efforts that have been commended by the Vice Chancellor and the UDs delegation here in Maroua. Animated with spirit of conquering all hurdles, the Paralympics team of UDs at this stage of the competition, as per the non official classification table, is at the 2nd position with 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 2 bronzes medals directly behind SIANTOU Institute topping the unofficial classification table.
Worthy of note, the Paralympics discipline was instituted in the university games for the first time in Douala 2014, UDs took part in the competition with 7 athletes out of the 12 required and was 4th for the first experience.
