International Women’s Day 2026

UDs Women Launch Celebrations with Fitness Walk and Clean-Up Campaign

Dschang, March 3, 2026 (UDs/SIC) – Activities marking the 41st  edition of the International Day of the Rights of the Woman officially began in Dschang with a massive turnout of women from the University of Dschang (UDs) and other institutions across the Menoua Division.

Observed under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action for ALL Women and Girls,” this year’s celebration at UDs opened with a joint fitness walk aimed at promoting unity, wellbeing and solidarity among women.

At exactly 6:30 a.m., participants assembled at the Senior Divisional Officer’s office yard. Sports officials from the Divisional Delegation of Sports conducted physical activities like warm-up exercises before the march began, while security forces ensured order and safety along the route.

The walk led participants from the SDO’s office to the ceremonial grandstand, stretching toward the Party House through Fokou, with a U-turn at the Rondo Roundabout. The procession continued toward the Gendarmerie before returning to the starting point, where a cool-down session concluded the exercise.

For the women of UDs, led by their coordinator, Professor Wansi Sylvie Lea, the outing symbolized more than physical activity. It marked the official start of a week-long programme dedicated to celebrating women’s rights and achievements. Staff from various faculties and administrative services turned out in significant numbers, reflecting strong institutional commitment to the cause.

Immediately after the march, the UDs contingent moved to Campus A for a large-scale clean-up operation. Equipped with gloves, face masks, brooms and buckets, the women cleaned the stretch from the former Deanery of the Faculty of Law and Political Science to the Djoumessi Mathias Conference Center. The sanitation drive underscored the group’s commitment not only to advocacy but also to environmental responsibility within the university community.

Participants later returned to their offices to continue their professional duties, as preparations intensify for the next phase of activities.

The programme continues on March 4th, 2026, with the official launch of the UDs Women’s Week by the Rector, Professor Roger Tsafack Nanfosso. A roundtable discussion focusing on this year’s theme will follow. With a strong display of unity, discipline and civic engagement, the 2026 International Women’s Day celebrations at UDs have set a purposeful tone for the days ahead.
