Vice Dean, Prof Tamfu Wilson elucidates
The University campus A of the University of Dschang despite the post electoral hitches remained unperturbed and totally focused on studies. In a quest for reasons for this massive turn out of students in the campus, UDs/SIC sought the opinion of some university authorities. The Vice Dean in charge of Programming and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, Prof Tamfu Wilson, a seasoned Administrator and a Public Law don shed his views in this light;
To him, all is ok because the system does not give room for such affinity, the university system is very apolitical, and as such lecturers and students are not expected to express their political leaning in an academic environment of this sort he stated equally acknowledging the fact that, It is in-built in human beings that when you are in the academia politics is too extraneous.
A tour into the campus gave an interesting picture of lecture halls filled with students and lecturers dispensing lectures as scheduled on the time table.
I personally patrolled the campus and saw students having their classes even during the troubled period. The Dean of the Faculty, Prof Guy Mvelle posted the timetable that had to be scrupulously followed and that is exactly what is happening at the moment with lecturers focused on teaching. After the proclamation of electoral results and the swearing in lectures have continued as usual, he added.
As a Vice Dean concerned with academic affairs the Dean seized the opportunity to share a word of advice to the students and teaching staff;
We want to encourage students to continually have their academics in mind so as to fulfil their dreams. Students nowadays need to continue to focus on their future and develop their potential. I counsel staff with political orientations to remain professional when dispensing lectures. In the same light, I call on students to remain calm and shun all sorts of violence. The administration through my humble self is doing everything to encourage students to make sure that they study in a friendly and cooperative environment. We thank the Rector and Dean for this quiet and secure environment they have created for effective studies.
Students on campus are arming themselves with a sense of determination to ensure success. As the days unfold the campus continuous to vibrate to the rhythm of academic activities.
