5th Edition of the Inter Services Championship

 FSEG clinches the trophy

Dschang, UDs/SIC-07-06-2023.  The 5th edition of the Interservice Championship for 2023 came to an end at the Catapult stadium of the Campus A with the Faculty of Economics and Management clinching the trophy after winning during penalty shootouts against the Central Specialized Services, 4-3 goals. Early on, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences grabbed the third place after a thrilling encounter with the University Institute of Technology Fotso Victor which ended at a score of 4-1. The Championship also witnessed the triumph of the Female handball team of the Central Specialized Services against the female team of all the Faculties of the institution through a score of 6 sets to 3.

This very rich sporting event was witnessed by a mammoth crowd and members of the university community during which, the Director of Student’s Welfare, Mr Zie Zie Gothard lauded the efforts of the participants and the athletes during the just concluded University games in Ngoaundere. He reiterated that the Inter service and interfaculty games were aimed at concluding the sporting year of the institution and regretted that UDs participation in the university games was not satisfying but promised to ensure a better performance come Garoua 2024. He applauded the support of the VC to the development of sporting infrastructure such as the wrestling arena, athletics ground and provision of sporting material for all the disciplines.

Before the presentation of laureates during the last university games and medalist during the championship, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Roger Tsafack Nanfosso in his speech reiterated his commitment to transparency in winning medals and assured the athletes of his full support, tasking them to do better in the future tournaments “It’s   my dream that one day UDs comes out 1st during the University games.”

During the award of prizes to the athletes of the UG, the medalists received cash prizes from IDEAL Services (25,000 CFA to Gold medalist and 100,000 cfa to the Judo team) ,The Chancellery Board through the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences offered (100,000 CFA to all gold medalists to the tune of 300,000 CFA), the Director of UIT/FV gifted the medalists with the sum of 200,000 CFA in total, the Deputy Vice-chancellor in charge of Internal Control and Evaluation also supported and  the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (Psychological coach) gifted the Judo gold medalist with the sum of 50,000 FCA . On the other hand, medals and trophies were handed over to recognized teams and persons at the end of the championship.

The inter-service and inter faculty championship is an initiative of the Vice-Chancellor that aims to create and maintain a spirit of conviviality, sharing and solidarity between the members of the staff of the UDs. It is also part of the logic articulated around the concept of « living together ». The next sporting jamboree is slated for next year/
