THE PRIORITY AXIS OF A PROMISING PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN DSCHANG AND QINGDAO
Dschang, UDs/SIC – 10/09/2024. The Rector of the University of Dschang (UDs), Prof. Roger Tsafack Nanfosso, visited the University of Qingdao (UQ) in China on September 7th, 2024. This visit followed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities in Beijing on September 5th, 2024 and at the “China-Africa-UNESCO high-level dialogue on education cooperation and cultural heritage protection” on September 6th in the Chinese capital. Through this visit, the plenipotentiary of UDs touched the physical reality of the UQ and deepened the discussions on the priority projects to be initiated by the two institutions. The first axis of cooperation thus selected to give substance to the MoU are: pharmacology, technologies, Chinese language and culture, and the economy. These areas are justified in particular by the current capacities of the two institutions to conduct research and out-reach projects in these domains. It is therefore a question, in the short term, of formalizing the establishment of working teams made up of lecturers and student researchers. The latter will submit projects to donors with a view to equipping laboratories and more persistently engaging university training and research in solving the real problems of Chinese and Cameroonian societies of today and tomorrow. It is worth noting that lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy at UQ are already working with lecturers from the Faculty of Sciences in UDs.
The range of participants in this scientific joint venture will be expanded, in particular by lecturers and students from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Fotso Victor University Institute of Technology, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences, etc. UDs has a Center for distance learning which will be put in contact with the “College of International Education” of UQ as part of training in Chinese language and culture. The preparation of the projects as well as their implementation involves strong academic mobility of lecturers and students from the two universities.
The identification of these priority areas of a promising partnership between UDs and UQ results from fruitful meetings and discoveries made on site in Qingdao. Accompanied from Beijing among others by Dr Gang Li, lecturer-researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy of UQ, the Rector of UDs visited the “Biomed Central” and the “College of Pharmacy”. He had an exchange session in the morning of September 7th at “204, Office Bulding, QU” with the President of UQ, Prof. Wei Zhiqiang. The solemn audience organized on the occasion saw the participation, among others, of the Director and the Coordinator of international cooperation activities (Prof Wang Yunbo and Prof Wang Fang, respectively), the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy (Prof Sun Yong ), the Dean of the College of International Education (Prof. Zhou Yunxu). Other much more technical meetings took place early in the afternoon at “201, Office Bulding, QU”.
The representative of Cameroonian students, Tewan Tewan Holy, enrolled in Master of International Business, also participated in the discussions. To appreciate the integration of the university into its environment, the UQ guest took a tour of the city of Qingdao where he experienced Chinese gigantism marked in particular by this 37.5 km bridge over water.
